First Draft Completed

Finally! I finished the first draft of my work in progress. I’m starting to like it again. It goes something like this: Geoff’s marriage has survived an affair, but he is beginning to wonder whether forgiving Heather was worth it. She uses their past problems to goad him daily. Then Heather leaves him. Geoff is determined to keep his commitment to her, though she has given up on being a wife to him. When her lover chooses to dump her rather than allow his wealthy wife cut him off, Geoff begi… Continue

Free Book for a Special Lady

Searching For Mom Book CoverIf you could choose a mother, who would it be? Most of us are happy with the mothers we have, but there are other dear women in our lives. If we didn’t have a mother and we could choose someone to fill that void, perhaps we would say to one of these women, “you are like the mot… Continue

Whipped by a WIP

The troubles with my work in progress continue. I’m confident that means it will be great or a dismal failure. I reached the 82,000 word mark this weekend. I won’t say that I won’t change the last three chapters, but they are good enough for a first draft. The rest of it may have some major changes. It aggravates me that it took so long, but I finally figured out that what motives the female character is independence. All this time, I thought she wanted money, respect or shoes. It wasn’t until… Continue

Writing in the Wrong Key

Have you ever sung a song with perfect pitch, but then realized you were singing in the wrong key? I feel that way with my work in progress (WIP). I’ve passed the 75,000 word mark on my WIP and I am preparing to go into the final showdown, a scene in which our hero chooses the woman that no one else will take. As I look back over the previous 75,000 words, the WIP has a number of very beautiful scenes filled with interesting characters. They throw the main character into a heap of trouble. As in… Continue

I'm Running Out of Space

When I reached the 50,000 word mark and blew up the house this weekend, I celebrated. It’s a totally arbitrary number with no real meaning, I know, but it gave me a sense of accomplishment. How short lived was my joy, for when I reached the 53,000 word mark, I realized that I still have to buy a house, clean out a bank account, put the money back, totally ruin someone’s life, someone has to die and it all has to happen in 1,545 words. I also need to work in some stuff about a principal who is lo… Continue

Timothy,

I was lurking over @ Rachelle G.'s blog & read your guest blog. Very insightful and I so appreciated your pointing out the need for passionate writer's.

Better writing as an outgrowth of passion will certainly raise all of our "crafts" - pun intended. :-)

Thank you for being an encouragement.

By the way, I'm going to have to explore your "Church Website Design" - I teach a class on website layout and graphics @ the community college level. This is all pre-programming stuff mainly to get the students to focus their efforts on reaching their audience.

Blessings!

Snow White and Rose Red was the "worn out" section of my big pink volume of Grimm tales in my childhood--one of my favorites for some unknown reason. I chose it to expand as a writing exercise, just to see if I could do it and it, well, exploded.

Thanks for your comments on my blurb from The Ryn-- I went back and read the manuscript passage from the distance of "what if i didn't know the rest of the story?" and decided it was a really poor choice to post-- sorry I wasted your time with that! I have since nuked it from my ecfl blog... but I did appreciate the comments and will look into those things.
