Looking back, I can't believe that the last time I posted here it was winter and there was a ton of snow. Time doesn't just fly, it jets. Now, it's summer time in all but the calender date. Yesterday it was almost 90 here and while things are supposed to cool down, it won't be much. Trying to focus on what is most important since I always seem to have a ton of stuff to do. Time to get to the writing!

Four feet of fresh snow at my house. As beautiful as it is to look at, I really hate shoveling. I try to make it a productive time, thinking about my WIP as I remove each shovel full. Praying that it's soft and fluffy, not icy. WIP is going good, four chapters down, hope to finish in 60 days. God bless all!

I'm taking part in NaNo, the National Novel Writing contest. It begins every month of November. I'm competing mostly to get back in the groove of writing every day. The last couple of months my life has been consumed with caring for my folks, moving them into a smaller house and just getting them settled in. My writing has suffered, so I'm hoping this contest will kick start me back into writing everyday. So far my word count is over 13,000. Hope to double that by the end of the month, at least.

It's been a while since I posted anything anywhere! My life has been chaos. Not long after my mom healed from her broken hip, I had a fall of my own. I sprained my knee and broke two ribs. It was difficult to sit at the computer for a while. Next, my folks finally decided to sell their home and move to something smaller. Their house sold in two weeks, and then we began the search for a new house. In the midst of all this, my parents caregiver quit suddenly. Now, in the midst of a huge move, my f…

I was working on a new novel, making good progress, when my mother fell and broke her hip. My heart breaks for her, she had a knee replaced a few months ago and was making excellent progress, now, she is in pain and has lost her confidence. My mom is 84 years young. She really never stops so it hurts to see her laid up. She was hiking and skiing into her late seventies, and only stopped because her knee was so bad. If anyone reads this and you think to pray, please pray for Doris. And thanks, Go…

Well, I was 8,000 words into my story by Saturday and I came to the painful realization that the story was just not working. Into the circular file it went and I started something new. I worked out a lot of details Saturday and Sunday and now have 2000 words and two (good, I hope) chapters. Am praying I can stick with this, but feel much better about the characters, back story and plot. Got to go write!

May first marked the day my writing group started a writing challenge. The goal of the Challenge: finish as much of your novel in thirty days. We all set daily goals, mine is at least 500 words a day, and our progress will be tracked as we email actual words written to a common bulletin board. We did this in January and it was a terrific motivator. I met and surpassed my goal. This month, I began the challenge with a new WIP, my first attempt at romantic suspense, working title "The Do-Over." It…

I have to say I really hate to see winter and spring go. I don't care for the summer months, too hot and dusty for me. I prefer cooler temps, curling up with hot coffee or hot chocolate and a good book, and even a bit of snow. My dogs sure love the snow, they roll in it every chance they get. Where I live the only snow left is on the shady hillsides. I like Spring because temps are still moderate and all the bulbs come up. Daffodils every where and they are such cheerful flowers! But summer, to…

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct you path." Pro 3:5-6 This verse popped up in my devotional this morning and it really spoke to me. For the last year and a half I've had to put my life on hold and care for my parents. Some weeks are harder than others, but thanks to the Word of God that He is in control and I can trust him with all my heart, my life and the things in this world that are difficult.

I just received a contract for my second book, it's called "My Sister's Keeper" and it is a sequel to my first novel. I write suspense novels and my background is law enforcement so this book deals with the crime of human trafficking. This crime is growing and becoming an issue for American law enforcement though it has been a problem overseas for years. It's modern day slavery and the first training film I saw about it shocked me. Anyway, any thoughts out there about using story to highlight pr…

I'm about three quarters of the way through my current novel. I plan on having it finished by the end of April. My writing style it to write the book, and then go back and revise, revise, revise. I have never been able to outline. With this book, I actually attempted a story board, but it went by the wayside. Anyone else reading this, how do you do it?

I once made a comment to a friend that writing the book is the easy part, it's getting it published and marketed that is hard. She vehemently disagreed with me but I stand by that observation. For me writing is the part, marketing and self promotion is impossible.
