Several people have recommended The Shack to me...none of them writers.
They all were profoundly moved by it.
I didn't know the book was self published.
It sounds to me like The Shack was trying to be 'hip' as it made its point. Which, unfortunately, can sometimes confuse the issues that we literally take as the foundations of our faith.

I agree. Story first, writing second. But the writing is very important. It must be good enough to transmit the ideas effectively while remaining nearly invisible.

I am in the middle of Stuck in the Middle, and I'm really enjoying the book! It is nice to see a primary character who is only 'playing church' and realizes that she's missing the key relationship. So many are portrayed as perfect Christians. Thanks for creating characters who grow through the book!
