Amazon You've Gotta Love 'em (or not)

I like having the text of my books available through Amazon's Search Inside the Book program. I figure its more likely to get the people who will enjoy my books hooked and it reduces the chances of people buying the book before they discover they don't like it. Both are a good thing.

In the past, I have carefully prepared a PDF file to submit to this program, cropping the front and back covers in the correct spot and sending them along with the black and white pages. This time, Amazon offered t… Continue

For the Love of a Devil - This is about as "edgy" as I get.

My latest book, For the Love of a Devil is finally available on Amazon.com. It may be available other places as well, but I don't pay much attention to anything except Amazon.com.

For the Love of a Devil is inspired by the life of Hosea. In this modern retelling of that story, a beleaguered English teacher, Geoff Mywell, longs for the love he thou… Continue

Help! Can anyone hear me? I need your help!

I have noticed that many people write novels and then have trouble figuring out how to classify them in terms of genre. To help with that, I have created a tool, but I need your help. It is very tedious work for one person to go through every possible combination of answers to verify that the tool is functioning correctly, so I am looking for people who will try the tool and report any anamalies, along with the answers they gave for each question. As an incentive, I will give a book the person w… Continue

Hi Timothy,

Thanks for offering to be my friend.
Nice job on the tool!
The first chapter of my controversal thriller "Burden of Faith," will clearly show why its primary genre comes up "Women's Fiction," instead of "Edgy Christian."

In order to help you work out the kinks in your groovy new tool, and to help my writer buddies who waffle over what genre their novel is, I'm spreading the word about using your genre wizard. Hope that's okay.

btw - I totally agree with many of your comments I see on other posts, one controversial (steamy) one in particular. You are quick and extremely insightful.

I didn't realize you wrote website design. My poor church website - I'm the church secretary and hooked up with the company that hosts ours and gives tools for dummies like me to keep it updated a couple of years back when I didn't have time or a clue how to do it, and now...teach the old dog new tricks, it's what it is, for now. (next project: gettng pastor's sermons from analog to digital and uploading to our site or to a site we can link to)

Thanks for all you do!

Timothy,

I was lurking over @ Rachelle G.'s blog & read your guest blog. Very insightful and I so appreciated your pointing out the need for passionate writer's.

Better writing as an outgrowth of passion will certainly raise all of our "crafts" - pun intended. :-)

Thank you for being an encouragement.

By the way, I'm going to have to explore your "Church Website Design" - I teach a class on website layout and graphics @ the community college level. This is all pre-programming stuff mainly to get the students to focus their efforts on reaching their audience.

Blessings!

Snow White and Rose Red was the "worn out" section of my big pink volume of Grimm tales in my childhood--one of my favorites for some unknown reason. I chose it to expand as a writing exercise, just to see if I could do it and it, well, exploded.

Thanks for your comments on my blurb from The Ryn-- I went back and read the manuscript passage from the distance of "what if i didn't know the rest of the story?" and decided it was a really poor choice to post-- sorry I wasted your time with that! I have since nuked it from my ecfl blog... but I did appreciate the comments and will look into those things.

And that, my dear, is the key. I try to think like a reader when I review. :)

I hear you. I will say if the author is a great writer but it wasn't mind kind of story in the review if it's appropriate. But I read all genres. I am looking for stories that won't let go of me and won't bore me. If they do, out the window they go.

I think most reviewers are being polite, but unfortunately this comes with a sense of dishonesty. The latter comes from the subconscious level, and is hard to avoid. I'd learn to see the fine line over time.

Oh, the bloody finger. Oops. That was MINOR in comparison, lemme tell you.

Oh, yeah, Squeamish. Need I remind you of a certain part of your book that nearly knocked me off my treadmill? :) OK, so you didn't describe it in detail, and it's a sensitive spot for me...but still, gotta give you a hard time about it--hee, hee!

Oh, yeah, a bunch of squeamish folks like me said, "Thanks for the tip so I didn't waste the money." A whole bunch more people said, "Allright my kind of read" based on my review. You'll see that on my site. Most people buy the book anyway if they...

Well, here's my two cents--maybe more. I've been feeling wordy lately. My friend Shawna assures me I'm just "thorough." She's so sweet :). I believe in honest reviews. I mostly review books for fun and by personal choice, so if I don't like a boo...

Thanks. I didn't even go into the demonic stuff that was creepy. The mutilation was enough to make me wanna hurl.
