How about pretty frank sensuality/sexuality - no, not the sweet Julie Lessman married type, but the type found by people in today's world who need to be redeemed? I'm reading a book from the Urban Christian imprint. I gave it a pretty good review, b…

About Me:
Shawna Van Ness is a graduate of the Mike Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business at prestigious Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. With entertainment industry credits including acting, singing, press kit design, fan club marketing, and the most glamorous: unpaid intern, Shawna Van Ness has schmoozed and hobbed-nobbed alongside some of the most amazing professional gophers in the business.

After falling in love with a Midwestern school teacher, Shawna shook the glitter of Music City from her shoes and now writes full time from her home in rural Iowa.

Her latest novel, SUSPENDED IN DISBELIEF, is the story of a fallen woman's painful journey through self-imposed penance and toward the mercy of Christ. Weaving protagonist Avalon Courey through several segments of the entertainment industry, Shawna found a use for some of the stray glitter which clung to her clothes when she left Tennessee. Sparkling with romance, laughter, and suspense, SUSPENDED IN DISBELIEF taps into the American fascination with celebrity, taking the reader through the dissonance of despair and into the unrelenting melody of mercy's song.

Represented by literary agent Les Stobbe, Shawna Van Ness is currently at work on her next novel.

Sell Sheet from the novel proposal for SUSPENDED IN DISBELIEF by Shawna Van Ness

Temptation pulls. Mercy reaches. And faith hangs in the balance.

International music icon Avalon Courey turned her back on fame when its temptations conflicted with her faith in Christ. Two years after her abrupt departure from the spotlight, a pressing legal obligation forces Avalon back into the celebrity life she’d left behind. Still unsure of her calling, but contractually required to pursue it, Avalon reluctantly lends her talent to a motion picture soundtrack.

Despite her misgivin… Continue

Shawna,

Saw your post on the ACFW loop & realized you're an Edgy Christian Fiction Lover. kewl! So I had to say hello. :-) Noticed you're in Iowa? I was in Minnesota and then Iowa on vacation ... visiting family there, so I just passed through your state on Saturday.

Visited your blog and loved the opening line ... "escapist by nature and truth seeker by calling" ... Your sell sheets are also intriguing.

Nice to see someone exploring those supernatural elements in their inspirational writing. AND congrats on landing an agent that has an eye for that niche.

Blessings to you.

Hi Shawna, yes I'd love to chat! But I don't have Google chat...I have yahoo messenger, and I'm DudeMomof7. I'm also on Face Book, which is a really good way to chat. On fb I'm Lisa Frank Sinnock.

The cop ride alongs are awesome!! I'm going this Friday. As for new phraseology, hmmm...yes, a little, lol! I learned that the guys call Crack heads 'zombies' and meth users are 'tweakers.' They say the funniest things! I write them all down and hold onto them to write in somewhere. One of my guys said, about typing while driving, that he was a good 'hunter and pecker.' Then he said, "um, that sounded bad..." Isn't that hysterical?? Oh-I got another invitation, from another officer, to ride during the day and he's promised me a Thursday so he can take me through the gang areas. How cool is that?? AND he used to be a cop in Chula Vista, where my novel takes place. Even cooler!! He's helping me with the map of the area, where the gangs hang out, etc. I'm having SO much fun! :-)

I'm very interested in your work - keep me posted! I agree with you that 'too sweet' is not good. We tried to read a series about a little girl and she was SO perfect, my daughter put the book down one day and said, "I can't be like that, Mom!" I agreed. We learn a lot from our suffering, and from our mistakes. How do I follow your stuff? Do I just look here on your page? I'm still trying to figure out how to keep up with it all. Google Reader is good, cuz it lists all the blogs I'm following on one page...but that's as far as I've gotten.
