Reading Black?

When I was a kid I read lots of books. Did you?

I was the book worm, the nerd, the geek, the brown kid with four eyes. Yeah, I got picked on for reading 'too much.' It bothered me a little, don't get me wrong, but not enough to stop me from reading.

I read anything I could get my hands on. Strawberry Girl, 1984, Black Boy, Popular Mechanics, Campus Life, Vogue Knitting, the encyclopedia. The topic didn't matter. I just liked reading. It was an escape. It was my lifeline. Truth be told, it didn… Continue

Do You Want to Be Right or Reconciled?

Reconnecting, a process

Reconciliation, simply put, is based on the assumption that at one point there was a connection. The information below is given to help us move forward, with hope and excitement, toward that reconnection.

Listen. Learn. Love.

1. Educate yourself.

* Study the scriptures, what do they have to say about race and racism. I challenge you to start with these scriptures with racial reconciliation in mind: 2 Corinthians 5:16-21, John 4:3-9, John 5:23-24,… Continue

Hey, Loser!

Ever worked with someone with a losing attitude? I have. Everything she put her hand to, she complained about, declared it a failure even before the deed was done.

Some may have called her a realist. In my mind, I called her a loser.

Having a losing attitude is a character flaw, but not one you can't overcome.

2 Ways to battle a losing attitude

1. Make a list of things that went right on your job (or in your life)
2. Make of a list of the things you've done right (or do routinely well)

Linda!

Wow ... small world. Thanks so much for the invite.

So how are you? ... delighted to see you here!

I've been quiet on the crit front and with my writing due to building an online class for my day job and other real life intrusions ... or shall I say, character building exercises. :-)

I'll be delving back into the craft during Nov., Dec., & Jan. - hoping to get a manuscript draft completed by spring break. So you might see some crit traffic again soon.

By the way, your "Made For Success" blog entry is especially timely right now and it carries a healthy dose of wisdom that is quite encouraging.

Thank you for sharing it and do keep in touch!

It is a delight having you here out on the edge. :-)

blessings,

david

Soon and Very Soon
Excerpt pg 302

Easter was the main event in the Christian calendar. Every sermon preached throughout the year could be tied to Jesus’ death, burial or resurrection, and just a prelude leading up to this commemoration of Christ’s ultimate victory. This was one of those eventful years where God seemed to redirect his people by bringing Easter early. Everyone was heading home to the church seeking acknowledgment, redemption, salvation, but most of all, an available seat for the most popular day in the life of the church.

Happy Resurrection Sunday!

This business sure is a learning experience! I wish you all the best with this series, too, and many more contracts in the future!

Yes, my family history is rather interesting--though being famous for a massacre isn't necessarily what you want to be known for. LOL! But the faith my ancestors had is such an inspiring legacy. I'm very thankful for that.
