“No one said elves are nice. Elves are bad.”

Latest Activity

I know someone who published w/PA and was OK about it. That was a good 7 or so years ago. But she wouldn't do it again. They absolutely don't push the book or have reps visiting book stores to get shelf space. The author has to do everything.

There are good things and bad things about Publish America. If you have a ready made market in which to sell the book...go for it. For example if you belong to a HUGE church and the pastor is going to plug the book. If you go with them make sure y...

Have you seen the movie "House"? It was supposed to come to selected theaters in October but then they moved it to January. I haven't heard anything about it coming to DVD. I've been trying to find info on it but keep coming up empty. I saw the trailer for it, it looked pretty sweet.

hey, just to clarify: I think one letter is plenty differentiation, not to mention that I'msure our storylines and usage of andoven/andovan are completely at different edges of the spectrum.... nobody's ripping anyone off in this case, so I hope you haven't changed anything on my account! It's those places where spellings are exact that are so tricky... my original kingdom was called Aldaria--- but i found that exact definition as well as every possible phonetic respell that could exist when I googled it. When I finally retooled it, throwing in some latin allusions, it turns out I like the new name best, so God always knows what he's doing when we see a roadblock. E'veria fits the spirit of my novel much better than Aldaria ever did. Google can be such a beautiful thing!

Elves are bad, eh? Have you been talking with my dragon? Actually, he doesn't think elves are bad--just longwinded and laborious, unless they're drinking soda in which case they're a royal pain in the keester. (The additives, you know.)

Truly. Likewise, another group of characters in my book are "Storytellers" and most of their names give homage to my favorite authors, Rowling, McKinley, and Lewis become Rowlen, Kinley, and Lewys, etc. --- I love that you create your own cusswords; the wonderful license of fantasy authorship! I'm struggling to follow CBA guidelines within my WIP (a contemp. novel) because I have characters who NEED to swear; they are begging me.... I guess I'll let them and see what sort of fits it causes editors later! HA!

It amazes me how we fantasy authors come up with the same sort of words. In my novel, "The Ryn," I have a race of people known as the Andoven. Sound familiar? One little letter and a storyline is all that separates us in the fiction world. Previously, my ficticious kingdom (same novel) had a different name than the current "E'veria" -- but I googled that creation and found that my kingdom already existed--and was trademarked!
Have you found this to be a common problem in your writing... and what do you do about it? It took me an entire day of panic and another spend in the hallowed halls of Google and Ask before I found a kingdom name that did not already exist... but it turns out I like this one better.... whodathunkit?

Umm, both...
Favorite Genre
Speculative Fiction (Y'know... Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Horror, deranged dream sequences, etc.)
About Me:
I come from the hinterlands of New York City, bearing strange ideas and forgotten lore. I make the concern of my study the life and thought of ancient Jews and early Christians. I write tomes on the life and history of Andovan, the Land Beyond the Stars; Paradise, the perfect world made such through the complete hegemony of technological overlords; of America in the future in 10: Seconds, and the wars for freedom that have yet to be fought.

I dwell in Brooklyn with my darling wife and two children cats. I listen to loud, fast, violent, and deliberately offensive rock music. I support Arsenal Football Club, play Lord of the Rings Online, and work for a major record label in the royalties accounting department (trust me, it's not very exciting. At all.)

"Against Principalities and Powers" – First Draft Complete!

Woo! Two first-drafts in a week! And this one's actually marketable!

"Against Principalities and Powers" might not be so overtly twisted as "The Soulsucker of Aneuma," but it should hopefully cheese the right people off and make for a nice discussion piece. It weighs in presently at 2,735 words, and its success lies in its final execution. Right now, as far as executions go, it's less guillotine, more rusty serrated knife.

I'm endeavouring to sharpen t

"The Soulsucker of Aneuma" Redux, first-draft finished at 17,764 Words

This is not necessarily a good thing.

I was aiming for 10,000 words or less.

Who on earth is going to print a 17,000+ word story from a first-time author?

Oh, wait! Google Adsense has an advertisement for a group called "Publish America"... They say they'll publish my book "with Ease for Free"[sic]. I should probably look into that!
