I'd talk to John Robinson. He successfully made the leap from Christian publishers to a secular publisher while remaining a Christian who writes in an edgy fashion. http://www.johnrobinsonbooks.com/

Tell him Phy sentcha! ; )

Ah, ok. thanks. I know I've talked to a couple of publishing houses and they all basically say no profanity, exessive violence, or gratouitous sex scenes. My character in what I'm writing is a recovering alcoholic/drug user who was beaten as a child and who at first hates God.

To me, it is Christian fiction which is daring. Of course, what the CBA considers daring, the rest of us might just consider 'free.'

So an edgy Christian story, to me, is daring fiction that features some element of the Christian panorama (sin, grace, redemption, forgiveness) which is more concerned with artistry and craft and less concerned about excluding language, violence, or sex which may exist in service of the story and despite the prescriptions of a nervous or protected industry.

In short, tell the story that's in you to tell, for the audience you have in mind, and artificial limitations be damned.

That does /not/ mean that we push the envelope of taste or truth for the sake of titillation or self-gratification. Daring fiction means knowing your story and your audience, not throwing all standards to the four winds. Edgy stories defy staid convention, not God.

I saw a question about how do we get a critique on a portion of our book? Do we post it here?
