Edgy Christian Fiction Lovers

Readers and authors sharing great edgy fiction that inspires...

I am ready to pitch my book! Is there a list of Edgy publishers I can access? Thanks!

Hey Karla,

I would try Revell and Bethany House, and of course, Michelle's publisher, Sheaf House. Revell took a chance on me when A Passion Most Pure garnered 45 rejections elsewhere -- it is VERY edgy for the Christian market.

Good luck!

Hugs,
Julie

Cook has put out even edgier stuff than you Julie, believe it or not. I just read two of their books. BUT they are not taking anything right now and are booked through 2011 so 2012 is their first available slot.

Did you have an agent or did you submit to each publishing house?

How edgy is your book? If you leave sex behind closed doors, The Wild Rose Press will look at your work. I don't write for the Christian market. I write with Christian values but I write for the secular market.

Oh, The Wild Rose Press now has a catelog dedicated specifically to Inspiration titles: http://www.thewildrosepress.com/whiterosepublishing.com/store/. Information to submit your work is in the Write for Us link on the right side and under "Important Links". Also, Pamela S. Thibodeaux is on Edgy Christian Fiction lovers and she writes for this publisher. You might want to talk to her for more information. I am submitting to The Wild Rose Press but in their mainstream line, but I can tell you that the people there have been very nice...and it is recommended by the Preditors and Editors website. (So it has a good reputation, which is important when considering a publisher, regardless of which one you go with.)

Hope that helps.

Actually The Wild Rose Press felt like it was too edgy (sex not behind closed doors) and it's (in their opinion) more women's fiction than romance, which is true. So that shows you they passed on it. But that's okay because another publisher bought it.

I almost have to laugh when I hear of The White Rose Publishing imprint of The Wild Rose Press get all modest when it comes to sex. I frankly think that they put all the prudes in that division, because across the hall, they have "The Wilder Rose Press" which basically puts out erotica. In fact, I will quote a disclaimer they put out:

"This area contains material of a mature and adult nature that may not be suitable for younger users.
You must be over the age of 18 to access this catalog. By entering this site, you certify that you are at least 18 years of age. If you are under the age of 18 or do not wish to continue, click the back button to return to the previous web page or visit our main catalog at www.thewildrosepress.com"

Can we say schizophrenia here? Now, as I have said in other posts, I am not about erotica in my writing, mostly because it is not necessary. A good love scene can be tastefully done without mentioning positioning and body parts. Quite honestly, the actual sex is not really the most interesting part anyway. It's the anticipation, and the imagination.

So as Julie Lessman said earlier, there are some houses (Revell, Bethany House, and Sheaf House, to name a few) who will take a more edgy approach to sex, but most 'Christian Houses' tend to shy away from it.

I have to admit, that my books are speculative on top of that, and deal with spirit-creatures adopting human habits. I'm doubly jinxed, if you will ... but hey, if there were no challenges in life, where would the fun be?

Yep. I am just waiting for the right place for it. When that happens you can read it, okay, Charles? :)

Cool. You'd like it even if it did make you a tad uncomfortable. :)
